Looking for advice on landscaping for the first time
Hi everyone! We moved into our home about 4 years ago and are finally in a place to start landscaping. I'm brand new to this and have never done any projects before. I'm hoping to try and get this done for around $1,000. The plan is to dig out the existing gravel, till the soil, and plant some shrubs. I'm thinking emerald green arborvitaes, panicle hydrangeas, and loropetalum. Looking for some advice on the best time of year to do this so the plants don't die. I live in Southern Illinois, which is in zone 7 according to the USDA map. I'm also planning to put down a weed barrier, edge it with plastic, and cover the whole thing with pea gravel. Nothing fancy but a definite improvement on the current state of affairs. Is there anything else I should know?
