  • Newbie Question… There’s a blade and string after?

I bought this edger and realized today it has a blade. I didn’t know they existed. So I tried it today and liked it… but I’ve seen people hold the string edger horizontally over small patches of grass to mow them. It looks like I’m unable to do that effectively with the blade edger?

Is it just for mowing vertical lines?

What are the pros and cons of each. Should I return and get a string one?

  • Reel mower question

Hey all, I have been thinking about getting a reel mower. I currently cut with a hustler raptor xd 54” and consistently cut 2-3 times a week at 1.5 inches because that’s as low it will go. I’m thinking my yard is too big for a walk behind (around 21k sq feet including the backyard) and my hill in the front plays a factor as well. I’m having hydroseed sprayed this week for the backyard and the front pine straw bed (I removed the bushes and straw). But with the hill I have, would it be too crazy to purchase a used fairway mower or get a little saucy and buy a ventrac? Middle Georgia and Bermuda grass.

  • Applied 24D incorrectly, damaged bermuda grass - tips?

Like the title says, applied 24D but my mix might have been a bit more potent than it was supposed to be - watered lots today and will continue to do so but wondering if there’s anything else to do?

  • Just moved into a new home. Any advice on how to get some grass?

Just moved into a new home with a yard filled with dead grass. I’m new to lawn care but I really want grass in my backyard. Would seeding and watering everyday be enough to get some grass back or is there extra care that I should do before/during/after?
Any advice or input is appreciated

  • Soil

Central Arizona. Half the front yard is a mix of some Bermuda and random greenery. The other half seemingly supports no life. Roots are from a large fruitless mulberry. It looks like there was once upon a time Fescue in this spot based on historical google street view. It’s completely bare now though, so I hand tilled a small area about 2 inches deep. The soil looks like ground beef. Planning to till to about 5” then add some compost and any pH fixings I’ll need. What would you all do?

  • Help Identify. Zone 6A

Can someone please help me identify this? Popped up in the lawn this weekend. Over seeded with Ryan Knorr elite TTTF last fall. Need to know how to eliminate and prevent from coming back. Plant is lime green compared to rest of yard. Sticks out terribly and grows faster than the rest of the lawn.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Is there a “zero clearance” edger that I can take right against my CMU wall? Manual tools preferred. Los Angeles area

I have an electric “weed wacker” that I don’t like using. Yard is small and I like using manual tools. Two sides of my yard are lined with a CMU brick wall and the grass gets tall there.

I’m very new to grass / lawn maintenance but I’m enjoying it. Open to advice. Removed turf and planted St. Augustine SOD. I mow the lawn with reel mower once a week and do the edges every 2-4 weeks.

    Los Angeles area.
