  • Recurrent problems

    Located in Canada, Ontario/Quebec border
My grass has been an issue for the past 8 years. We hired a company who redid the whole thing about 6 years ago and the same year it died again: we had grubs. This year I started early, overseeded last fall, ants treatment, fertilizer, compost, shade mix for the patch), hire a company for the crabgrass and weed control. I dethatch, aerated, etc. I got a watering permit and I am water 2x a days for 30 minutes, one early in the morning.

What will usually happen is that when the weather start to get hot, and around July my grass turns all yellow and start to die. We have water restrictions and can’t water every day. The area around the tree doesn’t seem to grow.

    I have a few questions:
    - is it possible the trees take lots of nutrients which prevent the grass around from getting what it needs? Should I add iron or nitrogen?

    - is it possible maybe I didn’t have the right type of seed before? Not much sun get to these parts due to the trees.

    - I had grubs in the past and use to treat yearly. This year I messed up and thought it was included in my package but it’s only going to be in Fall. Anything I can do for now or it’s too late?

    - I have a vitamix foodcycler and making a batch of compost with it. Can I use this to supplement the nutrients for the lawn?

  • What are those spot on my leaf ?

For context : this is a leaf of malabar spinach plant which my family usually grow and eat in the countryside and toda I just see that there are alot of these weird dark red and white rings appear on it and I can't really put my finger on whatever is it

( I suspect it is ringspot but majority of the image i search doesn't have specific pattern on leaves )

I also found out that there are no spot on the higher leaves of the plant though

For the requirement of the sub i would say that the plant is watered every morning and and it stay outdoors with light obviously

  • Stores selling fukien tea bonsai in glass pot with no drainage?

My fiancee just bought this for me and Im rather confused. I have a lot of plants, but never had this one before.

As far as my understanding goes its a fukien tea(?) and it would need good drainage with a pot with holes in the bottom and some kind of mixed soil.

However it is planted in this closed glass pot and seems to be in some kind of moss.

The arrangement is beautiful, but is it survivable and good for the plants health? Cause i might be missing something but i assume its not and my research so far says the same.

If not then why are the stores selling it like this, is this purely a marketing reason, "its pretty, so people will buy it and if it dies after so whatever"?

  • Rubber plant at my workplace wilting

It's gets 8 hours a day of indirect sunlight and is watered twice a week. Been fine up until very recently when it started wilting.
Building's custodian takes good care of it and hadn't changed up the routine

  • Looking for suggestions!!

Curious on solutions to complete this waterfall feature. The goal is to conceal the pipe and not disrupt the water flow.

Any ideas? It looks amazing otherwise I just don’t like the look of pipe. The company said they will form it and mortar it closed just leaving a slit for water flow.

  • Zone 8a, do I have different type of grass ?

Hi everyone, I’m new to lawn care and I inherited this lawn. I’ve been working to get it fixed.

My question is, do I have two types of Bermuda grass ? I recently learned that it’s not recommended to over-seed Bermuda grass to avoid having different types and also it’s not necessary as Bermuda grass can naturally expand to patchy areas (with proper care). When I look at some of the areas of the lawn it seems like there’s two types of Bermuda grass.

What do you guys think ?
