A river runs through it :(
I picked the worst time to put in a retaining wall to terrace my steep front yard. We have had 3 weeks of rain every day -- usually as severe thunderstorms -- unusual for my area but not unheard of. The ground is completely saturated and I am losing backfill soil. I put in rain mitigation when I built the wall.
* In front of the retaining wall there is a 4 inch perforated french drain imbedded in 8 inches of gravel with geofabric above.
* There is a surface drain at the top (below the blue tarp there is a whirlpool).
* In addition there are four 2 inch drain pipes spaced across the wall.
The french drain is working in that the water is shooting out of the endpoint like a fire hose. The 2 inch drainpipes in the wall are working also, they're just overwhelmed. I'm wondering how to handle this. Should I build a gully to my driveway to manage this immense amount of water. One of my neighbors suggested building a rain garden for water capture. I'm not sure how to manage this. I can't do anything about the source of the water since it comes from up a hill. I'm open to ideas.
