• My Two Year Old Thai Con Sprouted This Leaf

    I know the Thai Con is in some way, "artificially variagated" but is this something more? I've never seen a leaf like this in a Thai Con before!

  • What to do with low water & low sunlight corridor in yard?

    Okay Reddit. I have lurked your threads and watched you give many good suggestions in the past and today I am in need of your help.

    I've been living here for 10 years and have turned every corner of my yard into a productive or beautiful outdoor environment. Sometimes it's a flower garden with a bench, sometimes it's a vegetable garden, you get the idea. But there is this one spot between my shed and my house going from the back to the front yard. On the other side of the house, the walkway is paved with uni-stone. So iin this walkway I wanted to keep the pathway green to have that juxtaposition.

    ...I have failed. I just cannot grow anything here (no matter what seed I tried). So I'm looking for suggestions on what I might be able to do here that doesn't necessarily require living plants but might still look fun and outdoorsy.

    Tell me Reddit, what can I do with this space?

  • Looking for Input from pergola Owners & Backyard Design Enthusiasts

    I'm working on a small personal project to develop a new gazebo design, and I’d love to get honest feedback from people who’ve installed, lived with, or designed backyard structures like gazebos. I’m not here to sell anything—this product isn’t available yet. I’m simply trying to learn what features, materials, or design considerations matter most to actual gazebo owners and folks who’ve built or planned a gazebo in their yard.

    A bit of background on where I’m at:

    * **Why I’m asking:** I’ve sketched out some initial ideas and prototypes, but I want to hear directly from the community about what works (and what doesn’t) in real-world use.
    * **What I need:**
    * If you’ve built or bought a gazebo, what were the biggest surprises—good or bad—after installation?
    * Which features do you find most valuable (e.g. roof pitch, ventilation, screen panels, anchoring methods, material choices, ease of assembly/maintenance)?
    * Are there any “must-have” design details you’d recommend to ensure durability, comfort, and ease of upkeep?
    * What common pitfalls should someone avoid when choosing or designing a gazebo for, say, a suburban backyard in the U.S.?
    * **How you can help:**
    * Feel free to share photos or quick descriptions of your own gazebo (dimensions, materials, manufacturer, etc.) and what you love or wish you could change.
    * Tell me about any DIY hacks you incorporated—maybe extra braces, weatherproofing tricks, or how you handled ventilation during hot summers.
    * If you have specific advice for someone who’s still in the research phase (e.g., “Don’t forget to factor in wind load” or “Look for galvanized steel fittings to prevent rust”), that’s exactly the kind of input I’m looking for.

    If you’re interested in a deeper discussion or want to participate in occasional design polls and prototype reviews, I’ve set up a dedicated Facebook group where I’ll post occasional sketches and mock-ups for feedback. No obligation, of course—just an optional way to continue the conversation if you’re curious. You can join here: \[[Facebook Group Link](https://www.facebook.com/groups/992328363048383/)\]. Group name\[[FlexPatio’s insiders](https://www.facebook.com/groups/992328363048383/)\]

    Thanks in advance for any insight you can share. I really appreciate the collective wisdom of /landscaping , and I’m excited to learn from your experiences so I can build something that’s genuinely useful for people who love spending time in their backyards. Feel free to comment here with any thoughts or questions—happy to clarify anything!

  • How to repot these plants?

    I was recently gifted several plants & have no idea how to take care of them. I’d like to repot them into more matching pots and keep them inside on my window sill. I thought this was an easy task until I got to the garden store & realized I had several questions.

    What size pots do they need? Should I separate the 3 on the right? What kind of soil do they need?

    Appreciate any advice!
