  • Received soil test. Need help with plan of action.

    Located in zone 6B.

We’ve got a couple areas about 10 x 20 that get plenty of sunlight but were previously covered with a deck or concrete. They have some weeds growing in them, but we have struggled to get grass to grow.

At the beginning of May, I seated them with black beauty ultra and added Jonathan Green Veri Green starter.

I think I really overdid it with the starter. I used a handheld spreader and really put a ton of it down.

Well, surprise surprise, the grass never germinated. It was watered three times daily and had plenty of sunlight.

Anyways, I got a soil test and these are the results. Any tips on how I should proceed?

The rest of our lawn is doing incredibly well. It’s just these two problem areas.

  • Looking for suggestions re: outdoor patio

    Hi all,

We have a small outdoor patio and no (traditional) backyard space/land. We are in Houston for reference so it’s really hot/humid for most of the year. We also have a small toddler, so we have a small (unpictured) water toy…but would love any suggestions or ideas on what to do to spruce up our patio.

I met with a landscape architecture friend weeks ago who drew up some interesting plans, to the tune of 15k.

We decided to put that amount towards a generator which we installed recently, with the hurricane season impending (located behind the fence where there is a small gravel easement). Maybe we do something more significant a bit down the road, but was looking for any suggestions or thoughts anyone may have. Maybe a few potted plants and a stand-up garden? I’d like to avoid mosquitoes if possible and admittedly have no experience with these types of projects…

    Cheers!!

  • Talk me off the edge pls…

Hi. I noticed spider mites on a few plants several weeks ago and have done washing and spray treatments but am worried about this Dieffenbachia! I’ve checked again and don’t *see* evidence of the pests still, but these leaves are looking worse! I seem to keep running into these and can’t win the battle and am considering a mass purging just to be done with them all… Any advice or encouragement? 🙏🏼

  • Devil's Backbone

This is a Devil's Backbone that I received as a small cutting almost 2 years ago. I will have to remove it from this corner for it's not receiving enough direct sunlight (I think).

It has been living outside (Caribbean) since I got it and propagated 4 cuttings of it. I really wanted to try it indoors to fill this corner for a more jungle vibe, but alas. Too much leaf loss in one week. This was a fun trial though. On to a new plant hunt for this corner. Any suggestions?

I would love a Fig or something high growing.
