How to stop that drain setup from flooding
This asphalt driveway is at a back corner of my house. Unseen at the left of the image are stairs that go down to a door to my basement.
The drain at the center of the image deals with a lot of rain from my driveway, since there's a kind of large asphalt funnel around it. It's connected to my foundation drain, and I've heard from many people that it's an horrible idea.
It also sometimes clog from leaves and various tree debris that fall during storms, which then start flooding the funnel, which then goes down the stairs and flood there, which then cause some water to slowly trickle true the door seals, which is a problem.
So yeah, what should I do with this? We have a sizeable amount of money we're willing to throw at this. At the right of the photo, I have a large driveway going to my garage that I'm willing to both replace with a different, more permeable surface. I don't go with my car there, but I do use a bike on it, so would something like flagstone on top of gravel be an option?
Also, I've heard I might be able to redo the sloping of that driveway and make a dry well there to drain water, is this a possibility? If it is, could I also send a gutter outlet there? Again, I'm willing to spend a sizeable amount of money on this.
What do you think?
