  • New House Help

I recently purchased a new home. In the backyard the previous owner lined the bottom of the chain link fence with garden timbers to try and stop erosion? It is very uneven and the fence is curling back in some areas.

Does anyone have any good ideas on a better way to make this look better and be more functional? Keep in mind the yard drains towards the fence and into the slough behind.

    Thanks!

  • Edging and fill options ideas for new pole shed

Getting close to finishing a new pole shed. Planning on putting a 2.5’ edging around it, ~4” deep. Trying to decide between rock or mulch, and not sure what to use for edging (metal, plastic, wood?). Wanting something low maintenance. Cost of rock vs mulch is pretty close in our area. It’ll have compacted sand underneath, so thinking of skipping any weed barrier. Not planning to put any plants in. Central MN if that matters.
    Open to any ideas! TIA

  • How best to fill this eroding gap under my fence?

Recent weeks of heavy rains have caused dirt to erode under my fairly new fence. Slopes downhill slightly, shade from large tree has prevented much grass (bermuda) coverage. Do we just fill this with soil and tamp it down, put a plastic liner etc under it first, lay sod on top of the fill to slow future erosion? Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Color help

Looking for advise on what color hydrangea to put in front of my house. I’m looking at little lime and little lime punch. Or should I go with traditional blue? I’ll probably put three under the windows and add boxwood. Zone 6

  • Anyone else have a favorite cheap tool? I don’t even know who makes this screwdriver. It’s unbranded, but I’m gonna cry the day. I lose it.

  • What to do with this downspout?

We had heavy rain a few days ago and I noted water spewing from where this downspout meets the earth. I just dug down and have questions - Am I right to assume this is leading into a drain pipe, if the downspout is this far under? There is like a metal mesh in there making it a little hard to dig deeper and the other side is my neighbor’s driveway so I didn’t try. It is not leading into the driveway drain you see in the bottom of the picture, I just had that put in. I looked around and can’t find where it might terminate. This is a late 70s duplex so it may be buried in the vegetation..

Unfortunately the driveway drain was not able to accommodate the amount of water coming to this area so I would really like to fix this drain if possible, instead of diverting to driveway. Are companies like roto rooter able to fix things like this? Or are these types of drains usually collapsed beyond repair?

  • Tips on removing sod!

Hello! About to embark on the largest landscaping DIY project I have ever done. The wife wants the garden bed to extend further out and wrap around the side of the house to the fence line in the back. Roughly 5’ away from the house and 26’ long. I’m open to any tips or recommendations on the best way to tackle this! Thanks!

  • Help

I’m wondering how best to level this area. It started by cutting down a big tree then grinding the stump down a few years ago. Then recently I had another project that I rented a skid-steer for and I tried to flatten it a little more than it was, but it didn’t work. This may be a skill issue with the machine but I was wondering if y’all had any ideas on leveling it.

My next thought is to get some dirt and fill in the low areas, it won’t be level with the rest of the yard but will be smooth At least.
