• $13k to regrade and resod. Too much for 2000 sqft? Houston, TX

So my backyard retains a ton of water during rain and hurricanes. Probably due to the poor grading given to me by the builder when I bought the house 3 years ago. It’s been a mess and I get weeds all the time. It’s always moist for days after raining and it’s super bumpy. The water pools next to my foundation near where the picture is taken from. I’m currently getting quotes and the first one being from a reputable company is $13000 to regrade and resod the backyard and add gravel paths to the sides of the house as well as clean up my storm drain ditch since the rain has eroded it. Does this seem fair or too high? I’m just now getting quotes and will look to get 3 or 4 estimates but wasn’t sure if this is normal ballpark. Thanks!

  • Cut Short For Event?

    In Massachusetts

This year I'm cutting my lawn at 3“ thx to this sub. Last week I cut it on Wed, and we had a party on Sat.

It rained Sat AM until ~12 ( party was 12-3) so I couldn't mow.

As you can see the grass was pretty long. But, I was leaving it long to 'protect' it from the traffic.

My question is, would you have left it long or cut it short just for the party? I would have mowed Fri night, given the forecast.

  • Help with dead patch!

    This is in Southeastern Wisconsin

Truck was left in back yard for 7 months, since November. Finally moved a few days ago and now there's a large dead patch of grass. I raked it and alot of the dead grass came up but not all of it, as you can see in the photo. What would you suggest I do to fix it? Turn the soil and lay seed? Or should I go with fresh sod? Or keep watering and see if it will come back? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

  • Hi what plant is this(the purple on btw)

Hi we have this plant in our garden forever thought it was some type of lavender but lately my neighbor's cats have started coming to our garden and hanging out a lot and I wanted to make sure it wasn't poisonous to the cats.

  • Peperomia soil hydrophobic?

I think I let my peperomia get too dry, or the soil has become hydrophobic. When I put it in a deep dish of water to bottom water it does not take up any of the water. When I top water it just goes right through or rolls off the top. The leaves are also turning yellowish. What should I do to help it? It is in a southern facing window all the time and I water it when it’s dry but admittedly I have forgotten about it recently. It was growing so well when I first got it but now is not putting out much new growth. Thanks for any help!

  • Velvet philodendron new leaves coming in red

I got this plant recently and the new leaves are coming in a strange color, I don’t know if this is normal for this plant? It’s in a north facing window, and I only water when the soil is 2/3 dry. Is this normal or is in getting too much light / not enough water?

  • Wanted to share my pothos cuttings :)

My mom bought these previously for a display of orchid flowers, but since I wanted to get some more plants for myself I found it to be perfect for multiplying plants!

The leaves grew close to the stem so no, they're not broken or bent weirdly! And the air roots are in the water inside the capsules :)

  • Do all my babies look okay?

I’m relatively new to succulents and started out by caring for just one (Jhaymes-in the owl pot) two years ago, and have rapidly expanded my collection. The Aloe in the white pot has quadrupled in size since January. I’ve managed to propagate a few (much to my surprise). I just wanted to know if at a quick glance everything looks okay? I know the plant on the bottom right of the assortment planter looks rough but it was discounted to $4 at Wally World and had two completely dead plants in it as well. Everything else in that planter seems to be doing well and I’m seeing some new growth. I was just looking for some feedback.

Oh, also I bottom water when everything is super dry and the leaves look wrinkly/feel soft, all pots have drainage holes and the ones that don’t have pots with holes inside that I let fully drain after watering before reinserting. They are also under a grow light from about 6am-10pm daily.
