Need Advice! Beginner in the Bay Area Hi all! I’ve been lurking for a bit trying to get a plan together to fix my lawn, hopefully in the Fall. Located in San Francisco. I have tried to use EZ seed and clover to help the bare spots but it only seems to help in certain areas. My lawn is in kind of a bowl, so it doesn’t get sunlight consistently thru out the day. I have a sprinkler on 2 times a week. I haven’t applied fertilizer before. The dirt is pretty packed. My plan was to till the hell out of the left side, put down seed and soil, and fence it off from the dogs during the rainy season. My first foray These three drosera are my first foray into carnivorous plants. They will have either rainwater or conditioned water (API water conditioner to remove chloramines etc.), kept moist, and be kept in a well-lit room with grow lights (I have grow lights for my succulents anyway). Front yard retaining wall ideas Hello everyone. It’s my first time posting here. I’m posting to ask for advice with my front yard retaining wall. We have a very narrow driveway and a retaining wall made of railroad ties. The previous owners covered the wall with ivy with helps cosmetically but further reduces the width of the driveway. I’d like to figure out some way to remove the ivy and cover (or replace, but assume that will be much more expensive) the existing railroad ties so that we can gain some driveway space back. Is there another type of plant we could look at, or potentially brick veneer/equivalent to match the house? Thanks for any thoughts! What are we doing wrong with this lilac? We’ve tried soaking it with water daily, we’ve added general nutrient mixes, we’ve let it dry out. What’s going on with this okra? Hi all, I have three okra planted in a row, just south of a snap pea trellis, and just north of a row of peppers. This one in the middle, which is also the biggest, is turning brown on its lowest leaf, which then shrivels up and eventually falls off. So it’s taller and skinny with no bottom leaves. Doesn’t look like it’s happening to the other two. It’s lost at least three leaves so far. I started the seeds in March then transplanted them all in May with walls of water and took the walls off like two or three weeks ago when nighttime temps were consistently above 55F. I’ve been keeping the soil moist, and it just rained this morning hence the wet soil. Is it just getting too dry? Too much sun? Too wet? Something else? Help! I came home to this today! I have an elephant ear starting out in this pot and today was the first time I saw the white stuff around it. What is this growing in my wildflower/sunflower garden I planted some sunflowers and wildflower seeds this year and although the sunflowers are easy to identify, I’m not sure what this is or whether it’s a flower or a weed that should be pulled. Google image searches come up with a million different things that it looks very similar too so I’m hoping someone can help identify! Rental KUROMATSU So it's wednesday it means we got new bonsai today! This little fella is 80 years old! If you'd like more photos please ask! I'll answer some questions already for people who want to know more about rental bonsai. In Japan there is a service for a rental bonsai. We have signed contract for around ~150k yen a month. In exchange we have new bonsai each week for our entrance. What do I do with it? I'm only giving water. The company is collecting the bonsai from us and then they put it outside for at least 2 weeks. Did we ever got the same bonsai? No. We've been doing the rental from November last year and still not got the same bonsai. The company we're working with has AT LEAST 2000 bonsai in their possession! How do they have 2k bonsai? So in Japan you can go for bonsai hunting and just pick up the tree you like and put it in the pot. You only need a permission from the local office.
