Is this normal for pepper plants?

First year gardening. I’ve noticed some black areas where multiple stems meet on my baron red pepper plant. Is this something to be concerned about or is this typical?

Got stripes I’m happy with!

Been playing around with macgyvering a striper I can attach to my push mower and gives good results. Thinking I’m almost there! Just need to figure out how to walk in straight lines

Ok so im torn what to do here. The 3 lavenders are growing at different rates for whatever reason. Lavender like dry soil, so i might pull the mulch and just do all rock here. Thatll be ok right? As long as the dirt underneath is graded away?
