  • Boerne Texas

Can someone tell me what this plant is that took over my yard and what to do to get rid of it. Its impossible to pull on my own.

For background I bought this house when it was looking like this already.

  • An Eastern black swallowtail stopped by to snack on some dill.

Saw this one for the first time today. We have a ton of milkweed and have been getting Monarchs.

What butterflies have you been seeing in your garden this summer?

  • Retaining wall choice

Needing to replace our boundry retaining wall. It's roughly 32m long and we are planning to extend the height of the wall up to around 2m so back yard is level and fill it in with clean fill. The wall will ideally be one continuous wall rather than being tiered like it currently is. Soil is clay. Previous wall was a 2 tier timber wall which is failing.

I like the look of sandstone blocks but I've been reading that they wouldn't be as good of a choice as say concrete sleepers for soil that is mostly clay. Is this correct?

The only issue I have with the sleepers is aesthetics really. The posts appear to stay exposed and I'm not sure if there is an option to cover them up. I've attached a pic for reference.

    Thoughts?

  • Ready to harvest?

Has been this size for about 4 days.. do we harvest now even though it’s little? Or leave it be for a couple more days?

  • Dracena looking sad after repot. Details in caption.

I've had this dracena for 5.5 years. She came in a 6 inch pot with another smaller tree (RIP to her when my pup ate it and had insane diarrhea for 4 days). She was repotted maybe 2-3 times in total.

She was mistakenly in a pot with no drainage for almost a year. I just (within the last 2 weeks) repotted her into a pot with drainage (see photo). When I took out of the old pot, she was root bound, so this is also a size up.

It's indoor potting soil, mixed with lava rock and orchid bark watering when the pot feels light and soil is mostly dry.

She just looks really sad ever since the potting, like she hasn't been watered, but she's fully saturated since potting. If it is shock, what can I do to avoid losing her?

  • Need to vent

    TW: mental health

I recently had a sudden & unplanned admission to an inpatient behavioural health clinic.
I’m totally fine! Better than I have been in a while, really!

    However…
I was gone for 8 days. My mother-in-law came by while my partner was at work & she deep cleaned for hours.
When I came home, it was *so nice* to see! We have 4 kids, both work full-time, & until a couple of months ago I was a full-time student. Sooo I definitely appreciate any help I can get *immensely*.

That said, I noticed the monstera I had bought a week before my admission— my first monstera that I was supremely proud of & happy with— had been put outside in the east tx heat & direct sunlight

I was so overwhelmed with so much at once, seeing my plant dead as hell made me actually tear up lol. Like… almost as if my irrational (unconscious) fear of lacking control may not me so irrational after all

I mean, COME ON! Who sees a house with 20+ houseplants, picks one & says “hmmm, nah…. This should NOT be inside” lol.

Anyway, my partner basically got onto me for getting so emotional. I get it looks super ungrateful, but idk! It just got to me!

Anyway, if you’re struggling just get yourself evaluated. I’ve been on 10+ anti-psychs & anti-depressants, & after a >20 year struggle with poor mental health, I finally got a med I really like with no side effects :’)

  • Aloe Vera suddenly grows light green leafes - normal or dangerous?

    Hello everyone,

I bought this Aloe Vera plant years ago and ever since it has stayed the same. Now I moved to a new appartment and gave it a bigger pot and now it suddenly starts getting light green leafes instead of dark green ones. Is this normal or do I have to change anything about light level/water/soil?

    Thank you all in advance!
