• Home for my air plants

Created this for some of my air plants. Added some gravel, compost, soil, beach drift wood, a few other plants and everything has been thriving! Any tips or ideas to improve this would be appreciated!

  • Looking for Suggestions

I am 100% new to landscaping bought this house 6 months ago and we started noticing that this gate is sitting really low to the ground and often scrapes against the grass.

What are some suggestions on how we can fix this? Would pavers work? Just lowering the ground? We want a long-term solution that allows the gate to swing open and closed easily and also one that doesnt look like trash (my biggest personal concern).

P.S Ignore the terrible lawn and exposed sprinkler line. Those are works in progress.

  • Questions from a first time succulent owner

As the title says, I picked up a succulent from a farm just a couple hours ago and have a rough idea of what I need. I'll be dropping by Home Depot either today or tomorrow to get a smaller pot since I want it to be an indoor succulent. But here are some general questions I have:

    - Do I layer the potting soil, sand, and gravel?

    - If so, what's the general order?

    - Does the plant finish draining once water stops dripping from the holes of the pot?

    - Generally how big (or small) should the pot be? The succulent was packed in a ~16oz plastic cup and the roots were spread around.

  • Tiny plant in a tiny pot with tiny top dressing

It's a random stem-baby from one of my unidentified rampant succulents.

I know it won't fit in the pot for long, but it's so cute !

  • What to do with my backyard?

Located in NorCal, renting this property, just started a 2 year lease, potential to renew for a 3rd year. The owner has said they do not care about providing landscape so anything we want we would have to do ourselves.

As you can see, I have kids (2yo and 3 month old). The current makeup of the backyard is dirt, wood mulch, and dog poop (from the previous tenant). I am wanting to removal a certain amount of depth off, from the concrete to the back brick pavers, and from the planters to the fence (see highlighted area). The shade is there all day, so very little vegetation grows.

I want a backyard that my kids can enjoy and play in at all times of the year. I don’t care about grass, I don’t want my kids to get small injuries (splinters, rock scrapes, etc) as much as possible. I would want to be able to walk barefoot as well. I am thinking about laying down tier or rubber mulch. My second option is some sort of smooth rock/tiny gravel. What are my options?

  • Pencil cactus suddenly shriveled! Help!!

Hi! Im so distraught! My pencil cactus has been kept inside and was doing okay but new leaves were shriveling and not growing. So i moved it to a different room (thought it was a similar amount of sun) inside. Didnt check on it for a couple days and now she looks like this! Im so surprised that it looks dramatically different.

What can i do to save it? Should i take the green segments off and try to replant those? Does it need more sun? It is very dry, i have been wary of over watering. Does it need water??? Help!! Thank you
