Please help us transform our embarrassing yard

Our yard is embarrassing and frustrates me to even look out the window. We need help! We’ve had 2 landscaping companies ghost us so at this point we’re committing to the sweat equity DIY style on a somewhat limited budget.

It’s shady and wet. It stays pretty muddy after it rains.

We’d love grass, but not sure how well it will grow due to the shade and the traffic of our dog. We’ve discussed sod, but don’t think it’s feasible to have the dog stay off for the required amount of time and don’t want to spend the money if it’s going to fail. The left patch of grass is sparse at best and is the result of some grass seed put down this spring.

Do we need to do something about the drainage? What can we plant other than grass for ground cover so we aren’t constantly dragging mud into the house? Will anything grow at all? We have some hostas, ferns, and flowers on the left (I don’t recall what type of flowers, spouse picked them out) that are seeming to do okay. I’m having trouble visualizing anything different than it currently is. We’re in zone 6b according to Google. Photo was taken around 4 pm.

Please somebody suggest something, I need to do something before I sell the damn house to escape the yard

    How much would you charge?

A potential client wants these shrubs removed, honestly don’t know what would be fair for both of us price wise, curious to what you all would charge?

What is wrong with my mini bell pepper?

At first I thought this was a sunburn, but the brown spots are growing. My other pepper plant that is of a different cultivar is doing just fine. Is this a fungus? And is this salvageable?

    New Sarracenia Purpurea

I picked up this guy a few days ago from a local garden shop. He’s currently in a 4” pot and since he’s really small that makes sense. At what point should I repot and what size pot would be good? I’m looking at a 10” pot (8” deep). Is that a good size for an adult?

My VFT is in a mixture of perlite and peat moss; would the same be good for this guy?

Also, does the Vigoro perlite have additives like the Miracle Gro brand or is it safe to use?

    Thanks everyone!

As an aside, when I got him he was totally green. After a couple of days outside in complete cloud cover and rain he started coloring up a little. A couple days more of just a bit of sun and even more color. I thought it would take a lot more sun than it has to see some color.

    What’s my newest addition?

The Wegmans $5 plants have had me in an absolute chokehold and this is my newest one, but I’m wondering if it was mislabeled. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks and have had it under a plant light for about 12 hours and have watered it twice.

Today, I saw a much larger plant that looked similar to it but the labeling was different, so I came home and searched “Palmer Palm” and saw that it was completely different. I’m mostly hoping that the care I’ve had it under so far wasn’t detrimental. The biggest change was the white parts may have became greener, but I’m not entirely sure.

My top guess is a Peace Lily?

Japanese black pine seedling in net pot with organic peat moss and perlite

So this thing has exploded this summer with needles everywhere and I’ve watched countless Japanese black pine tutorials which is why I put it in a net pot to speed growth… anyways, I’ve posted this tree before and the advice I got was to take care of the lower branches because in the future they would probably become the main part of the tree. It was purchased from a local nursery that has an active bonsai artist. So he works on the bonsai department and gives training as well. It’s too far away for me to start that regiment. I was wondering if I should just let it roll or should I be removing these needles? Thanks in advance!

    Flowering snake plant

Ive owned this plant about 4 years, just now noticing its flowering. Had no idea this could happen. Any care tips or plant knowledge is welcome.
