• Yep, the bumps on tomato stalks are roots

I accidentally broke one of my tomato plants. Popped it in some water, checked back a few days later, and it’s grown some pretty nifty new roots! So for all those curious about their ‘bumpy’ tomato stalks, this is what they can become!

  • I’m new to this!

Hi. I’ve never had a plant live more than a few months, but my green thumb mom keeps trying to give me plants. We may have a winner. However, I do not know what to do next with this overjoyous amount of propagation. Every day it seems like there are new babies and the bigger ones are getting crowded. What is the best course of action? Thanks! (And yes, the plant next to it is also not dead yet…lol)

  • Literally happened within an hour of me looking at them and thinking "gosh, my hydrangeas are growing so well! I'm glad the deer don't like them!" Mothereffer

Baby hydrangeas, planted 2 years ago. The deer NEVER touched them... until this afternoon.

  • This is my backyard. How do I landscape this?

It's on a hill with a creek running through it. Weeds are over 5 ft tall in some places and it gets like this every summer. Any ideas on how to manage this? I've looked into goats but the challenge there is with being able to fence in the property on such a steep slope.

  • Suggestions for City Lot

    Hi All,

Looking for some help/suggestions. I had a firm plan in place, then I went to reddit and now my world is upside down!

This summer I wanted to do a "lawn" makeover for 4 properties in Chicago. If you are not familiar, in Chicago you basically have property, sidewalk, and then the "parkway." You actually don't own the parkway, the City does, but of course you have to maintain it.

All the properties currently have grass. Between the dog urine and weeds, you really just don't see good looking grass. My plan was to remove grass, fabric, stone/rocks and some small bushes. Efficient and soulless.

Please remember these are apartment buildings. Someone can come chop the grass, but no one is going to actually take care of the yard. That is why I choose stone. I have used stone in smaller areas before with some success. But yeah, the weeds seem to be creeping in more ever year. Through reddit I now maybe know why.

Hired a company to start on the first property (pictured). Long story short they did not work out. They did remove the grass and plant 20 bushes. Small globe bushes that get like max 3 feet high.

So now I'm left with a dirt parkway. I am putting in metal edging myself. Now trying to decide between stone or mulch, fabric or not. Someone will be weeding regularly. However, from what I read no matter what there seems to be a point of no return.

Any suggestions? Please keep in mind at most someone can do some maintenance every two weeks. No one is going to be taking care of a flower bed.

    Thanks!
