• Inquiry: Blue Comandra umbellata rhizome tissue

Good morning, in recent field work I happened upon some C. umbellata, which was a new one for me. I noticed that the vascular tissue in the roots has a bright, oxidized copper-like blue tissue surrounding it. I'm unable to find what this would be in the literature, and would guess it's sequestration or some kind of fungal association. Does anybody know or have a theory as to what this would be? Cheers.

  • Need help with this small area of my side yard

We have this small side area that is not really visible unless you’re in it. You can’t see it from the street, or backyard. The area gets very little sunlight, so we put down artificial turf to stop the mud pit that was always there. How can it make it look better?!? The fence rotted so that’s why it’s missing. Same with the fence around the hvac unit. This area stays very wet for days when it rains.
    Zone 8
We also never go back here due to the HVAC units being back here, it’s too noisy!

  • Orange dots on pear tree

I have apple and cherry trees too but this only happens to my pear tree. I've seen it previous years as well and it spreads to all the leaves of the pear tree. What is it and how can I prevent it from spreading?

  • Update, yep there's rebar

Finished up a couple weeks ago but wanted to update for those who asked.

Thank you for all the words of encouragement and some great advice.

Also thank you to everyone who neglected to actually read my last post before they commented and told me to add rebar (exactly like I said I was going to do), was entertaining to see just how many people posted about that. [https://www.reddit.com/r/landscaping/comments/1kp7w9b/amateur\_so\_cant\_post\_to\_rconcrete\_truck\_coming/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/landscaping/comments/1kp7w9b/amateur_so_cant_post_to_rconcrete_truck_coming/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Thanks to Reddit I added a ton more stakes before we poured, made sure everyone helping me with the concrete had a very good idea of the plan, focused some energy on keeping the splash off the siding, and we oiled the forms really well. It was definitely a risk doing it with five people without much experience, but we had juuuust enough to make it work. If I had hired someone I would have had comments but since I was my own GC I can tell myself to go \_\_\_ \_\_\_\_\_\_. Also gotta throw a shout out to the guy who delivered our concrete, he was very patient with our amateur asses and laughed with us quite a bit.

Appreciate the help and hope this might inspire or help someone else.

  • The insulting shamrock plant update

I reported anne the shamrock plant recently that I had thrown out because I knew it was dead. Then I found a couple of leaves growing out of a clod of dirt I had thrown away in the backyard. Just thought I'd post an update.

  • What is this mushroom in my fiddle leaf?

Woke up this morning to this thing having popped up in my fiddle leaf. Any one know what it is, how it got there, and what I’m supposed to do with it? (Thinking if I need to be careful about disposal or need to clean out all the soil).
