  • genuinley sorry for the awful picture i promise i will add better ones tomorrow.. any ideas on my blackberry plant?

this little guy has been with me since last year, i can't remember the time of year, probably spring/early summer. it was even smaller then, barely clinging on to life. it spent that year growing some roots and getting stronger, and stayed outside throughout the winter (england) and it sits on the north side of my garden, the sunniest spot (the house puts the rest in shade). it gets direct sunlight from about 9am-5pm, and indirect/shade for the rest of the daylight hours.

it gets watered if the top few inches of the soil are dry, and when it is watered it is done thoroughly until the water pours out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot.

i tried googling it myself but the only thing i can find is orange rust disease, which looks brighter and scaly, but this isn't seperate colouration to the leaves, it's the actual leaves turning orange/red/brown. there was an issue with ants living underneath it so i moved it onto this table, but i know ants can climb, so could it be ants aphid farming?

  • Should I thin to 1 or two, for vertical zucchini in a half barrel?

Seeing conflicting opinions online, some people saying to keep two plants for more successful pollination…

  • Wisteria is making me want to salt the earth

I’ve lived at this property for a few years, before I got here the entire side yard was covered in unchecked wisteria. The vines went up about 50’ into surrounding pine trees. I cut the stumps, painted on brush killer and did it again the next year. This is summer number 3 and suckers are still popping up all over. Current plan of attack is 6-8” of wood chips over the entire area to smother it out, but now the wisteria is growing out of the pile of wood chips before I had the chance to spread it out.

I’m at a loss. How do I get rid of this? Am I going to spend the rest of my life pulling these weeds and spraying brush killer?

What are the next steps? Flame thrower? Salt the whole lot? Please help

  • Getting Back into Bonsai

Hello to the lovely bonsai community of Reddit! My name is Matt and after studying bonsai in Japan i went on to own a bonsai nursery in Melbourne Australia.

I have since moved to China and since my circumstances don’t allow me to own bonsai (semi nomadic lifestyle) i have started a Vlog where i showcase life and bonsai in China.

If that is something that interests you I will share a link to my YouTube.

  • Starting this hobby today!

    Hi guys,

starting out this hobby today. Left to right: Hornbeam, japanese maple, japanese zelkova. Put them in a semi-shaded place first so they can recover from the overnight transport.

I wanted to buy neither a fully developed bonsai nor nursery stock as first plant (but surely will in the future), so I chose a couple year old prebonsais.

I guess next step is to prune a bit and then wire, but I have to study a little more first.

If there's something in particular in regards to these trees: What is the one mistake I shouldn't make in the beginning?
