Save roommate's sad plant
I know nothing about plants and don't attempt to grow them, but I just got a new roommate, and he brought this sad plant into our living room, and I am taking pity on it.
I don't actually know if it can be saved. It has a lot of brown leaves, which is not a major surprise because when I stuck my finger into the soil, two knuckles deep, it did not feel damp, nor does it feel damp when I touch the dirt through the hole in the bottom.
So... I'm guessing it needs to be watered, but how much and how often? Also, shouldn't there be some kind of dish under this pot between it and the carpet?
Also, the plant is currently by the big window (actually sliding glass doors to the balcony), but the blinds are often shut, because the apartment heats up in the sunlight, even though the balcony is in shade. Would the plant be better off on the balcony? Or how much light does it need to get in a day?
