Water problems (or: How many French drain comments can I get) This happened today during an insane rain storm. In 20 years of living in this house it has never happened before. I imagine with the increasing effects of climate change it will happen more frequently so what can I do? I know I will get a zillion people saying I need a French drain so let me just say up front: I can’t afford that. And DIYing a French drain? Can’t afford that either. Maybe in a decade when my real estate taxes stop going up and grocery prices stop going up and I don’t have two kids in daycare I can make it happen, but certainly not now. Can I, in the mean time, use some sort of trenching machine and dig a trench down the hill and at a slope behind the fence into the woods on the other side of my house?
