Milkweed shortage
I have about 12+ monarch caterpillars on a single milkweed plant that’s no more than 3 feet tall. They’ve eaten just about 80% of the plant, and most if not all of the tender leaves. They’re probably going to run out of food by the end of the day.
My parent’s home has a lot of tropical milkweed that got blown over from a neighbor. I should be able to I pull and bring home (they don’t want the plants to begin with), but I worry about possible parasites. That said, I would imagine having food is better than dying of starvation. Most of the monarch caterpillars look to be between 3 and 4 instar, so they still have some growing to do. The picture I posted is from yesterday, when most of the leaves were still on the plant.
