Reposting - Plant/shrub accidentally transplanted with wild spicebush, Virginia zone 8b
A few notes:
* alternate leaves, no teeth
* leaves densely hairy on top and catch the light like velvet, bottom of leaves also hairy but much finer
* stalk is slightly hairy and turning red towards the base
* plant is 1.5 ft tall and no signs of any bark developing
* no notable smell from leaves when torn or crushed
