Euphorbia Lactea: Potential mite or fungal damage?

Have had this E. Lactea for years, it did have mites at one point and the flower went completely brown at which point I thought it was dead. After a year or so it suddenly flowered again and has looked similar to this since then.

Is this mite damage / a fungal infection? I understand what corking is but I'm not sure that's the case here. I don't think it's rot as it is hard to the touch. Depending on what it is, how do I treat it properly? It is still growing fine as I can see new flowers starting to grow.

Any help appreciated.
