Beginning Ivy Removal, Zone 9b East Bay Central CA
Entire front garden is covered in ivy, which I know some people like as a ground cover but I hate because - what's in there? It's not native to my area, Zone 9b in the East Bay of California. Would welcome suggestions of what to place here with a fighting chance of surviving. It gets limited dappled shade early morning and late afternoon, is hot and dry all summer, wet and freezing temps in the winter, no irrigation though I think (?) I could dig under the fence and run some drip irrigation to it, though I'd prefer to water as little as possible. I need to avoid anything toxic to animals or children.
