  • Is my bonsai salvageable?

A friend of mine looked after this bonsai (Chinese elm) for a couple months. Granted, it looked a little rough when I gave it over.. another friend drunkenly knocked it over in my car and it came out the pot and hasn't emotionally recovered since. But there were still some green leaves.
They told me it hadn't changed much, but when this heatwave hit here in the UK it all went downhill. They said they were letting it soak in water once a week, but last week all the leaves went brown and crispy. When I collected it I was in disbelief 🫠 I've let it properly soak again for 10-15 mins then let it drain, and plan to do this every 2-3 days in the hopes of seeing it return to life... Do you think she is salvageable??

** The plant was sat by the South facing windowsill during the colder months, but since the hotter weather have moved it further back. So still gets sun but not directly.

  • Chinese elm

Grabbed this little elm in the clearance rack at lowes today. Ended up doing a repot since they had the trunk buried quite deep, lightly teased the roots to remove all of the coco coir and potted it up! We'll see how it goes

  • Could Use Some Help With Chinese Celery

This is about 12 weeks of growing white and pink Chinese celery...

I do far more turf grass than I do vegetables but the few times I have I have had great success. Good Soil, good water, and good sun seems to do 90% of the heavy lifting there. This is the first time I've done indoor grow lights and opted for indoor growing on these as its already 100 degrees here in Idaho.

Black Gold Seedling Soil - sifted

    About 20% Coconut Coir

Bottom watered about every 4-5 days

Soil temp 66 to 71 degrees

    Air temp around 71 degrees

2x sunblaster LEDs at about 8 inches for 16hrs/day

I am behind transplanting them to a garden box for various reasons but given how slow these are growing I'd be very curious as to how I can improve my starting. Just as well I can't seem to find much information on up curling in the leaves and the occasional spot and dead leaves for what should be a healthy plant.

Just before watering today I let the water dry up in the bottom of the tray (about 8 days) as I am concerned that there has been too much water... but it is celery... so... not sure.

Some general guidance would be helpful if you have the time. Chinese celery seems to share a lot of similarities with western celery so even if you haven't grown the Chinese variety I would still be curious as to your thoughts.

    TIA

  • New plant

Just got this new houseplant, think it’s a Chinese Taro.
The leaves are like muddy from the nursery. How can I clean them without ruining them? Can I use some soap or oil?

  • Any suggestions on how to style or work with the flat top of the trunk?

Chinese elm has been budding like crazy since I repotted and pruned him a few months ago but that flat top has got me stumped. Nothing growing out from that part either.

  • Curlings tips and brown spots on Chinese Evergreen?

    Hello,
I'm a bit new to owning plants and I picked up a Chinese Evergreen recently because I heard they can tolerate lower light. The tips were curled when I got them but it's a bit more dramatic now.. The soil is dry on top and a bit moist an inch down, and I sprayed the leaves with water earlier today. It stays roughly around 70-80° in my room. I'm planning on getting a grow light, but for now it gets medium-lowish indirect light for roughly 10 hours a day (right now it's outside because I found a tiny snail on it!!) i also got it with these brown spots on the edges (one of which tore away, it's the big hole in the picture) and now i wonder if it's due to the snail(s)? After a thorough search, i didn't find any other snails/pests but it seems doubtful there's only one.
I did some googling but I haven't found any specific answers.. I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it's pests, watering, lighting, or all of the above, and how to remedy it. I don't think it looks too unhealthy but I'd like to fix the issues before the plant starts dying!
    Thank you!!

  • Help with chinese pepper zanthoxylum piperitum

    Hi folks,

I bought a Bonsai tree, which I water but it doesn’t seem to be doing too well. Is there any hope to fix it?

Plant is kept out of direct sunlight, water regularly.

I also changed the soil to an indoor mix (Westland house plant potting mix).

Any guidance on saving this plant would be greatly appreciated.

  • Chinese evergreen

My hubby found this on the clearance rack a few months back.

Put it on top of our tortoise tank and I guess it loved the humidity and lighting because this beauty of a flower popped up!
